Introduction

Hello, my name is Daylynn! I just started attending UAF this semester and am currently working towards an associate's degree, but I will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in environmental science and conservation. I am from North Pole, Alaska. However, I moved to the United Kingdom in August 2023. I enjoy seeing the history, museums, and limitless opportunities the UK has to offer. I try to get out every weekend to discover something, whether it is new experiences or an old castle. This past weekend, I went to the National Gallery in London and saw some gorgeous pieces.

Throughout my life, I have dabbled in the arts through music, theater, acrylic painting, sketching, and photography. I'm not a professional, but I love trying to capture the world around us. I enjoy taking photos of my travels and capturing scenes through windows. I often use my own photographs as references for painting and sketching. While some believe that photography is not art, I believe that it is a form of expression and it does take some skill to capture images that convey a message. I have a growing postcard collection of artwork and places I've visited.

Picking just one piece of art that I find appealing was challenging, but one of the most memorable pieces I've seen is Marcus Stone's oil painting, In Love, at Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery. I enjoy the garden's scenery and the gentleness of a summer day. I love how Stone captured the sunlight through the foliage and the details of the statue of Eros. Due to the size of the painting, it is easy to be immersed in its atmosphere. When I look at it, I feel like I can almost breathe the fresh air.

  3. Your photography is very beautiful! I can never take a good photo with the right lighting and composition. My favorite photograph you've shown is your view from Bolsover Castle! It's truly beautiful how you capture your environment through windows, it almost feels magical, sort of. I've always wanted to go to the UK and visit their art galleries, and it's great to see that you're able to have that opportunity. Thank you for sharing, I look forward to seeing more from you!

  4. Hello! I am pursuing an associate’s degree right now as well. I love your photography technique of taking a photograph through a window. It creates a completely different perspective. I’m going to try that technique. European art is also what inspired me to dig deeper into the topic.

  5. Those are some beautiful photos that you have taken and I love that you are about being adventurous. That is an awesome explanation about the debatable topic of photography being an art. I am a little inspired by your vlog and I hope to follow alongside your journey in art, good luck!
